an audiobook i recently finished listening to is titled ‘didion & babitz’ and is written by lili anolik. i recognise anolik and her unmissable, theatrical voice from a podcast she did on bennington college and the bratty writers it produced in the 80s (such as donna tartt and bret easton ellis). she has a conspiratorial and intimate approach towards her literary subjects, which i appreciate and enjoy very much. so when i saw that her babitz book’s goodreads rating was in the mid 3s - i was shocked and appalled. the negative reviews all insisted that anolik was too obsessed with her subjects: that she was too nosey and waaay into people’s business, when she should have kept a respectful distance towards didion and babitz, and especially babitz. can you imagine complaining that a book on literary gossip, is too gossipy? no? me neither. gossip is the lifeblood of literature.

TEXT

Secret Billionaires, Mafia Brides, Alpha Kings: The Insane World of Microdramas

according this author’s friends on x, he is the next joan didion. i do think this is a banger of an article with fantastic reportage and a timely topic, but the next joan didion will be always, always be a woman. it’s not rocket science.

Barraco II - Furacão 2000 - Tati Quebra Barraco

don’t play this in the office. just around your day ones and other people who know what’s up.

VIDEO

“guys I went to a local council meeting and it was lowkey a baddies episode”

being a menace at the local council meeting isn’t just for pensioners, young people can do it too. best case scenario is that you enact some change in your area and learn about local politics, worst case scenario is that you get to ragebait bureacratic miscreant uncs.
